Chichén Itzá
Currently it is one of the new world wonders. It is located to the north of the Yucatan Peninsula, near to the city of Valladolid. Its name comes from the Mayan language, chi: mouth, chen: well and Itza: the name of a tribe that inhabited this area. The most famous buildings of this site are: “El castillo de Kukulkán” (Kukulkán Castle), “El templo de los guerreros” (The Warriors’ Temple), “El Observatorio” (The Observatory), and “El juego de pelota” (The Ball Game). It also has a large cenote (waterhole) called: “El cenote sagrado” (The Sacred Waterhole). On March 21 and September 22 you could see the equinoxes of spring and autumn respectively.

Uxmal
There is no specific meaning of its name but it is deemed as “Ciudad construida tres veces “(The city built three times). It is considered one of the most beautiful cities artistically and architectonically in Mexico, because its architecture is one of the most majestic of Yucatan. It is characterised by low horizontal palaces set around courtyards, decorated with rich sculptural elements and details. It is located 80 kilometres to the southwest of the city of Mérida. Its main buildings are: “Pirámide o casa del adivino” (Pyramid or Seer’s house), “Cuadrángulo de las monjas” (Quadrangle of the Nuns) and “el palacio del gobernador” (The Governor’s Palace).

Dzibilchaltun
Dzibilchaltun means "the place where there is writing on the flat stones". It is considered one of the oldest Mayan cities. It is located 16 miles to the north of the city of Mérida. One of its most famous buildings is “El templo de las siete muñecas” (The Temple of the Seven Dolls), also known as “El templo del Sol” (The Temple of the Sun); a square structure which was the focus of the city. In this archaeological site you can see the spring and autumn equinoxes.
